2009-2010 K2 Apache Xplorer Freeride Skis

October 17th, 2009 by Bill

K2 Apache Xplorer 2009-2010K2 is close to our hearts around here. The have been on the ski rack for over 30 years. When K2 first started making skis in the USA is was a time when people wanted to buy made in America products. Back then K2 wasn't regarded as a racers ski. K2 was more of a recreational ski. Rossignol and Atomic where king, but K2 made a great ski.

Over the last decade or more K2 has shaken any resemblance of it's past. Today's K2 Skis are made for very demanding skiers. The Apache series has plowed the way. Now K2 build skis like The K2 Apache Xploerer. Its the last offering in the Freeride category from K2 and is impressive according to all the reviews. If it skis like all the other Freeride Skis they have come out with in the last ten years I am sold.

Here's what Ski Magazine said "On the power-to-finesse spectrum, K2 used to live near the finesse end. Testers think that’s changing, crediting the Marker Inter-Pivot heelpiece. It’s the same one used in the Duke family, and its width delivers tons of leverage to the edge, even on skis as wide as the Xplorer. Throw in a metal-reinforced cap construction, and you get a No. 2 ranking for stability. Yet it retains the K2 playfulness: No. 1 in forgiveness. “Super fun,” said Moffatt. “Lively but balanced, so you don’t get tossed around.”
