Newest All In One Smartphone GPS Devices For Skiers And Snowboarders
Over the last several years tech gadgets for skiers and snowboarders have come full circle. Not so long ago the most tech that skiers had was the Sony Walkman. Not to say the Walkman was a dog. It actually took more punishment and kept working better than the early iPods.
Anyway we read lots of magazines around here. Over the the course of a year a couple dozen outdoor and skier publications arrive. Usually a month before they hit news stands.
This year we have seen a few articles about technology for skiers and snowboarders that have caught our collective eyes. Up till 2 years ago we had to bring a Hand Held GPS, a Apple iPod and a Cell Phone along if we wanted to have all the cool gadgets. Those days are gone. In only a few short years we have gone from carrying 3 to 5 pounds of gadgets to lees than 1 pound if we so chose.
In 2009 and in 2010 skiers and snowboarders can bring just one device with them and have it all. Music, GPS with Maps and of course the all important phone. So we have put together a list of our favorite devices to share.
The first all in one 3G Smartphone device we like is The Blackberry Bold 9000. This was writen about in Outdoor magazines Summer 2009 Buyers Guide Titled Best New Gear for Travel. They had a bunch of devices, but the Bold stands out for skiers. Why ? Because its bold. It is bigger than a normal phone and you can feel it in you pocket. Besides that it's a Blackberry so you can check your email and surf the web for maps as you ride up the lift. The Bold is very user friendly and the user has access to music, email, GPS apps and of course the phone. Read More at Blackberry Bold For Sale
The Apple iPhone 3G S is probably the most popular Smartphone among magazine writers. It should be as it has the most applications. The iPhone has taken the world by storm. Even with being locked into a contract with AT&T hasn't prevented the iPhone from becoming a everyday device for many. These days there is no need to have a AT&T contract though. The iPhone has been unlocked and successfully activated by thousands non AT&T Network users since.
As for skiers and snowboarders the ability to download trail maps and watch live weather channel radar puts on the top for the most functions.
Here a great article. Ski Magazine Calls iPhone Essential Gear.
