September 27th, 2009 by Bill

pink_ribbonOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness month.
This years race for the cure marks the 20TH year since Sue Komen's fight with cancer began. For all these years people from around the world have joined together to rise money and awareness about breast cancer.
One of the biggest supporters of Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure is New Balance. This company has put itself whole heartily into this cause. Even designing sneaker for those in the race.
As you train for the 3-Day, you'll want shoes designed specifically for walking:

1. Walkers have a unique stride. New Balance walking shoes help guide your foot properly from heel strike to toe off.
2. Walkers experience 50% less impact than runners yet need cushioning where other athletes don't. New Balance walking shoes have thinner midsoles and offer the cushioning you need in the heel and forefoot.
3. Walkers need a more flexible shoe that can bend easily in the forefoot and generate the power to propel you forward with each stride. New Balance walking shoes feature flex grooves in the forefoot to increase flexibility and reduce the weight of the shoes.

In 2009, New Balance celebrates the 20th anniversary of association with Susan G. Komen for the Cure® in the fight to eradicate breast cancer. Four national components make up New Balance's commitment to Komen for the Cure®: Our national sponsorships of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® , Breast Cancer 3-Day , and Marathon for the Cure® as well as our in-store retail promotion, " Lace Up For the Cure® ".

TriCityNewBalance.com (Southern Sports LLC)

On a personal note our family has two cancer survivors. We implore everyone to do your part in getting rid of cancer. Over the last decade almost every person we know has had cancer in there family. Cancer has or will affect millions of people. We need to pull together and fight cancer.

The Answer For A Wet Phone – New Product To Fix Wet Cell Phone

September 26th, 2009 by Bill

cellphone swimmingSo many times people let there Cell Phones get wet when playing outside. Skiing on the snow or water the trend for bringing our Mobile Phone wherever we go has become popular.

Over the last couple years we have actually seen people skiing or snowboarding and talking on the phone. Pretty funny really. We ski for many reasons, but the most common is to get away from the world and get into the mountains. And what do we see, snow riders on the phone every day.

If you bring your phone camping, hiking, skiing, snowboarding or any outdoor activity you stand a chance of dropping it. If you do drop it and it gets wet trouble will likely ensue. Wet mobile phones are a major cause of cell phone deaths.

Cell Phone providers fix mobile phones for certain things, but getting a phone wet isn't one of them. If you even mention to a company Rep. that the phone could have gotten wet your chances of getting a replacement phone are over. No phone company we know of will replace a phone because it got wet

JAWS Ends Summer 2009 With Sharks Closing Cape Cod Beaches

September 8th, 2009 by Bill

SharkSuddenly summer is over for 2009 and sharks keep swimmers out of the water on Cape Cod. Thats the big news for the end of summer in New England. This is kind of funny at The Ski Zone because Cape Cod is our summer base camp. Sharks are not new on the Cape.
As a youngsters my brothers and I would catch small sharks from the docks at the end of Barry Ave. in West Yarmouth.
In 2006 a good friend hit a large shark off of Monomoy with his 36 foot boat. The shark bent his props causing 1000's of dollars in damage. This happened where the sharks have been spotted during Memorial Day Weekend 2009.
Sign up for Rock Creek newsletter to receive a chance to win a $500 shopping spree from The North Face!

Why are sharks around Cape Cod and New England? Food is the answer. The area has some of the best fishing in the world. This brings Seals and Seals bring Sharks. Outside our back door are Blue Fish and Striped Bass to Mako Sharks and White Sharks. Though the larger sharks are usually further out they are still here and always have been. In fact Mako and Blue Shark fishing has become a second income for many commercial fishermen and Charter Boats. Mako and Blue Shark get about the same price as Sushi Grade Tuna.

Becoming A Ski Bum In Colorado For The Winter

September 1st, 2009 by Bill

Back Bowls VailThe only people thinking about skiing in August are skiers and snowboarders. Becoming a ski bum is a dream for most but it can be very rewarding. And let me tell you it is some kind of FUN! Speaking from experience I have a some hint and advice for first time ski bumming folks.
First thing you need to do is make the decision to pack up and go. Its much easier once you understand everything including the pitfalls.
How much money do you need to be a ski bum is probably the most important question. You will need money wherever you go. Resorts cost lots of cash to survive in. Ski resorts are just like any tourists destination once you learn your way around you find the best places to eat, sleep etc.
You need money to get by the first month to two months upon arrival at a ski town. Work at ski resorts does not usually start until late November. The consequence of this is you will need to arrive 4 to 6 weeks prior to find a job. Also remember that when the economy is down local people apply for the resort jobs too. In short you should have as much money as possible. Just a estimate of my experiances 4K is a good start if you want to be comfortable. I have seen younger ski bums arrive with much less though.
